Fireworks and family, parades and picnics – everybody loves a party. America’s birthday party always seems to rise above the politics and headlines. Why all the celebration?
Beyond the idea of a day off in the summer, it’s probably because we all realize the great concept and achievement that is America. Perhaps we remember the sacrifices that others made for us, even though they never knew us. We might stop to ponder how the freedom of this nation benefitted our ancestors and our own life.
I believe that part of the idea of this independence is discovering and asserting our sense of self. It’s the thrill of pursuing our own dreams and goals. This is one of the reasons we love working with entrepreneurs every day. The entrepreneur is a different breed who can courageously create a vision, believe in and stick to their principles, tolerate the risk, put in the sweat and tears to execute, persevere through the many challenges, and navigate all the changes along the way. The leader can define the character of the organization and the journey – and vice versa.
These entrepreneurial characteristics so familiar to the founders in business are very similar to the founding fathers of our country. The character and journey are intertwined.
So we celebrate another year of freedom and independence – another year of national and personal growth. Enjoy the party!
